On your Anthurium’s first few days at home, it may drop a few leaves or they might turn brown. Don’t worry – this is completely normal. Simply remove the damaged leaves and wait for new, healthier ones to emerge. To encourage steady growth, dust the leaves occasionally and give the pot a quarter of a turn once a month. Like many flowering plants, your Anthurium will benefit from ‘deadheading’. When the blooms start to fade, remove them to help the plant focus its energy on new growth. You can also prune stems and spent flowers to promote fresh blooms. Remember, removing old flowers is part of caring for a blooming plant.
Tropical plants like anthuriums thrive with around 12 hours of light per day. They don’t need direct sunlight to grow, as they do well in partially shaded conditions. However, a few hours of direct sunlight can help them flourish as long as they spend most of their time in partial shade. If using a grow light, aim for up to 16 hours of lighting.
Anthuriums usually bloom in late spring and early summer, but with the right care, they can flower for longer. Positioning them near a west-facing window will naturally support blooming. To encourage continuous blooms, ensure they receive plenty of light and water, and regularly prune away faded flowers.
